Designed to calm: The sensory wellness of Seastar House
Arriving at Seastar House instantly makes your shoulders soften and drop, your breath deepen and slow down and your mind quieten. The owner Kate wanted "a house that feels like a deep breath". Tucked amongst the lush greenery of Gibbes Glade on Barbados' west coast, this luxury villa embodies "barefoot luxury" as an intentional wellness design decision.
From the glazed entrance that welcomes you with a spacious embrace to terraces that merge interior and exterior spaces, every element connects you to nature. Each area is tuned to the rhythm of island living: bright mornings, slow lunches, sundown rituals and the soft hush of a house designed to calm the senses, soothe the soul and restore wellbeing.
The entrance sets the tone for restoration
A double-height entrance hall and open stairwell welcomes guests, creating the feeling of a deep inhale and exhale upon arrival, a design element that immediately shifts your nervous system from stress to calm.
A sensory palette that quietens the mind
The carefully blended neutral tones ease tension and reduce visual overstimulation, while soft textures and natural tactile materials found throughout promote genuine comfort. Breathable linen fabrics regulate temperature against your skin, cool stone surfaces provide grounding contact, and organic textures engage touch in ways that synthetic materials cannot. This deliberately nurturing environment works to reduce cortisol and restore balance.
Indoor-outdoor living that enhances daily wellness
The ground floor features two covered sun decks - one off the living room, one off the kitchen and dining room - creating seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. The dining terrace features a stone table with BBQ area and counter seating alongside a window bar to the kitchen, making entertaining feel effortless while maximizing cross-ventilation and natural airflow. Designed for gathering, connection and slow island living.
Bedrooms designed to capture the sea breeze
Light-filled bedrooms are decorated in calming coastal hues with natural botanical details. Each room ensures access to the gentle cooling west coast sea breeze - natural temperature regulation that promotes deeper, more restorative sleep. Organic linens create breathable comfort while tactile materials enrich the sensory experience, adding depth and dimension.
The master suite's bathtub ritual
The master suite features a deep outdoor bathtub for indulgent sundown bathing overlooking tropical gardens and the pool deck. The wrap-around terrace includes a covered seating area with loungers - the perfect space to witness the sunrise while beginning your day or unwinding beneath evening stars, engaging with nature's daily rhythms.
Unexpected moments of delight
The ground floor powder room provides a playful, island-inspired flourish with striking bespoke starfish wallpaper - a joyful contrast hidden within the calm palette that sparks a moment of discovery and a pop of personality.
The pool terrace as a wellness sanctuary
Surrounded by indigenous flora and fauna, the spacious pool deck offers multiple quiet pockets for relaxation. There's space to stretch and move before swimming in the thoughtfully designed pool, which features an endless swim jet for training. The deep blue lining enhances the naturally calming atmosphere, while a new outdoor shower deck allows for refreshing post-swim or post-exercise rinses beneath the palms. The cold plunge ice bath adds an invigorating therapeutic ritual for circulation and recovery.
Multi-generational gathering spaces
At the top of Seastar House, a loft landing lounge connects the two second-floor bedrooms with cosy sofas and TV - ideal for children and families to gather. The open-air balcony overlooks the pool deck below, maintaining visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Wellness rituals that restore
Seastar House extends its wellness philosophy through thoughtful amenities: a jet lag recovery tincture to ease your arrival, salt and honey body scrub for post-travel renewal, and a tea and infused water station for mindful hydration. Aromatherapy diffusers with essential oils create calming atmospheres, while daily wellness rituals guide you toward deep rest and gentle reconnection - so you leave feeling more grounded than when you arrived.

Seastar House has been carefully curated by stylist Kate Haynes to foster wellbeing and provide unparalleled comfort in harmony with nature.
